How will digital product passports impact your control over quality?

Saying that high, reliable quality usually is a key to being able to charge premium prices probably goes fairly undisputed. But what makes for high, reliable quality? Some good candidates are:

  • Clear and detailed specifications

  • Control and traceability

  • Stability in production and supply chain

Would you agree?

How would those factors be influenced by an initiative to detail, track and verify additional data for those you work with today (probably)? Would quality go up or down? Be more or less reliable?

Environmental impact, part and parcel of the product

Increasingly, the environmental impact of products is seen as an integral aspect of products. Another facet. By consumers, authorities as well as by business customers – who might be closer to the end consumers than you are.

Even if the price, quality, and function are the same, increasing numbers of consumers will choose the product that gives them the best conscience. Many are prepared to pay a premium for that good conscience.

Digital product passports, a standardisation of and uniform distribution method for environmental data

From that angle, the coming requirements by the EU for digital product passports to accompany products sold in the European Union are a natural codification and standardisation of that environmental aspect of products. Just another set of specifications.

Leading to a professionalisation of industries

We're not saying that it will be easy. It will take a major effort, both from you and your suppliers. Some might not even find it worthwhile their effort to comply. But which kind of producers are more likely to give in rather than step up? The serious, professional producers? Or the others? Will you?

At Blue Cromos, we're here to help!
